The Malta DanceSport Association, MDA, is the registered Association of
Ballroom and Latin American Dancing in Malta and Gozo. It is one of the 86
associations and Federations worldwide that together form the
International Dancesport Federation (IDSF) which is based in Lausanne,
Switzerland.
The main aim of MDA is to cultivate and raise the standard of Ballroom &
Latin American Dancing in Malta.
The MDA organises annually the Malta National Championships, Malta Open and
IDSF competitions.
The MDA registered its first members in 1994 and since then the competitive
members always participated in Malta Closed and Open Competitions, locally and
abroad.
As a full member of I.D.S.F., in 2002 the MDA organised the 1st IDSF Malta
Open Championships in the Pavilion - Ta Qali and in 2003 the MDA organised the
1st IDSF INTERNATIONAL OPEN for ADULTS -
Standard / Latin, and the 1st IDSF OPEN for SENIORS
together with Open Competitions, which had a good number of foreign
participants.
Later on the venue changed to the grand sport hall of University, Msida.
The number of members increased when the MDA also introduced the 1st Ballroom
and Latin courses for Beginners, at Tarxien and at Ta'Paris, St Theresa Boy's
College.
As a full member of the IDSF, MOC and KMS, its members are eligible to
PARTICIPATE abroad in the World's, European, International and IDSF Open
Championships.
We encourage new members to enrol in our Association and attend the Dance
Practice and Dinner Dances we organise frequently.
